Seoul - Subway (지하철 JiHaChol)

For a tourist like me, I am depending on the public transport to travel from one place to another when I'm in Seoul. Of course Seoul is no different from other country you can choose between Taxi, Bus and Subway.

If you ask me what is the first thing should learn in Korea? I will say 'Learn to use subway.' You don’t want to end up go nowhere after spending so much on air ticket. And I am also sure you want to spend all your money on shopping and food instate of taxi fare.

Subway (지하철 JiHaChol 地下铁) - My most preferred public transport in Seoul! Fast, affordable and feel secure because I’m sure I'll not miss my stop.

My friends always ask 'I don't know Korean language like you wor, is easy to use Subway ar?'
Answer is YES!
Are you sure?
Yes!

All my friends who travel with me to Seoul before will agree with me because after one lesson from me they are going to shopping at Dongdaemun on their own. ^ ^

All Station are name in Korean, English and Chinese. And when you are inside the train, there are Korean, English and Japanese announcement for the next coming stop. Is very tourist friendly. So don't worry, do some research on places wanted to go and GO!

Ah! be prepared to walk up and down lotssssssss! Stairs and steps are unavoidable if taking subway.Just came back from Seoul again and now all tickets counters are run by machine. Below are some subway using method. No worry is as easy as eating peanut. Makan kacang sahaja.

First, to buy ticket, look for this Ticket Vending and Card Reload Device.
Next,
1) Click on 'English'
2) Click on 'Orange Button' to choose Station that you wish to go. Then select Single Use.
3) Pay amount shown on screen. (A refundable deposit is charge for each card/ticket)
4) Collect your card/ticket
5) Collect your change if available.
Ticket purchase is done. just that simple.

Now, look for the station name that you want to go and enter the gate.
(If the station name is not stated, don't panic. FOC subway map is there for you to take, grap one start looking for the station that on the same direction of the station that you wish to go and check yourself in the gate, you will reach where you want to go)

Touch your card/ticket on this t-money sign to enter and you need to do the same to exit.

Don't forget to get your deposit back from this Deposit Refund Device.

Now, in order for you to reach the place you want to go, you must know which exit to get out. So do remember to note down the Exit number when you are doing your research.
(Important and must remember: Subway line number and color, Station name and exit number)

Some exit are far from station therefore some walking is needed. Don't worry, there are signboard everywhere show you the exit number and direction.

While walking don't forget to take a look at the advertising billboard along the way out.
Is time for some stairs before get out from the subway station.

You are out! Is shopping time. haha...

Lastly, a bit information to share on Taxi and Bus.

Taxi (택시 TaekSi 得士):
There are two types of taxi, Normal (usually is grey in color) or Premium Taxi (Black in color). What are the different? Charges. 3 times more than normal taxi because this company guarantee their service and the safety to all their customers. Only take taxi when I'm with a group of friends so we can share the taxi fare. But still not taking the 'black taxi' hehe...
FAQ:
How is taxi charges? Expensive.
Traffic jam in Seoul? Yes.
Alternative to travel within Seoul, eg: MyeongDong, Namdaemun, Dongdaemun etc? Subway, Fast and cheap.
How about go to Airport? Take airport bus.

Bus (버스 BoSu 巴士):
For tourist like us, I will advice not to use bus if you are new in Seoul or don't know any Korean language. Because even though you know which bus to take you will not know which stop to get down. Even though I know how to speak, write and read Korean, I still feel more comfortable in taking subway.

Airport Limousine Bus (공항 리무진 버스 KongHang RiMuJin BoSu 空行Limousine巴士 ): Best and recommend transport to and from Incheon International Airport. Base on my more than 10 times experience, this bus is always on time. (Bus route and fare click)

Again, if you are in a group of 4 or 5 people, airport taxi will be affordable. ^^
